So, here’s the deal…

My kitchen is a mess, as is my dining room.

Two out of the five of us aren’t feeling our best.

The kids are arguing in the living room.

The littlest is mad and crying.

And I’m in the bathroom with the door locked.

Despite what you will see as you scroll today and tomorrow, this too, is part of Thanksgiving.

It’s not all perfectly cooked turkeys and decadent pies.

It’s not all beautiful centerpieces and shining silverware.

It’s not all smiles and laughs.

Thanksgiving, like all days, is filled with life, and life is filled with all the things. It’s filled with laughter and tears. It’s filled with moments of quiet and moments that make us wish we had some earplugs. It’s filled with heartfelt conversation and intense bickering. It’s filled with beauty and messes.

So, just a reminder tonight in case you’re hiding in the bathroom too. You’re not alone in life’s messiness. Perfection is a mirage no matter what we post.

The key is finding gratitude amongst and through the mess. Some days it’s easier than others, that’s for sure. But no doubt there is so much to be thankful for even on our hardest days.

I’m gonna stay locked in here for the next few minutes, get a bath, and put on pjs. Then I’ll rejoin my sweet family in my messy house. I’ll start fresh.

I’ll tuck in kiddos and tidy the kitchen. I’ll mash the sweet potatoes so they’ll be ready for tomorrow. Then I’ll climb in bed and thank God for all my blessings. They are bountiful every day, not just on Thanksgiving. And they are bountiful even when life is messy. ❤️
