Our day hasn’t gotten off to a stellar start.

In the early morning hours our oldest called for me. She was sick, vomiting in the bathroom. I took her temperature and it was pretty high. In general, fevers don’t alarm me, but I knew hers needed to come down. There was no way she could keep any fever-reducing medicine down, so I started filling a bath.

I turned the water off and hurried downstairs to grab a few things and that’s when I heard it—a steady thump, thump, thump and I knew. Water.
There was now water dripping from our ceiling. We’ve filled that tub countless times over the years with no issues, so I rushed back upstairs to figure out what was happening.

It was then, in the middle of the rushing, I saw it. As I gave a hasty glance out our breakfast room windows a beautiful sunrise, no picture could adequately capture, was on full display. And I said, “Thank you, God.”

Thank you, God, for reminding me of your presence. Thank you for reminding me of your bigness. Thank you for reminding me to look up. Thank you for reminding me that even on hard and frustrating days, we are seen and known and loved.

Maybe your day hasn’t gotten off to an auspicious start either. May I simply encourage you that even on these challenging days, there are always moments of God’s grace to remind us of His faithfulness—to remind us of His love.

In the middle of the rush, the frustration, the hard…don’t forget to pause even for just a moment. Don’t forget to look up.
